Scholarship Description

The Norwegian Quota Scheme is a funding scheme offered by the Norwegian Government to students from developing countries, Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia for studies at institutions of higher education in Norway.

Eligibility 
To be eligible:
Nationality. Applicants from countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and developing countries are eligible to apply for Quota funding. Applicants who live in another country other than their country of citizenship, either temporarily or permanently, can not apply.

Institutional Cooperation. Applicants from institutions with which the University of Oslo has a formal cooperation agreement are eligible to apply. Preference is given to applicants who are linked to active and ongoing formalized cooperation / projects within the specific subject area.

As admission is extremely competitive, applicants should have excellent academic records (minimum B+/Upper second/GPA 3.3/4)

Linkage to an institution with a formal cooperation agreement with the University of Oslo eg Uo has cooperation agreements with the University of Jos, Nigeria. Quota applicants from this institution are eligible to apply for PhD - Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. See here for other countries listed. Fields of Study 
The scheme normally includes courses taught in English at Masters and Ph.D. level, in addition to certain professional degrees. In order to find out which courses are available under the scheme, please contact the institutions directly. 

Quota applicants may apply for selected Master’s degree programmes and PhD programmes. Applicants studying Scandinavian studies in their home countries may also apply for a one-year advanced Norwegian language programme.

Number of Awards
Currently, the scheme provides full scholarships for a total of 1100 students, of which 800 are from developing countries and 300 from Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Each year universities and university colleges in Norway are allocated a certain number of quota students.

Scholarship benefits
Quota funding covers student housing and basic living expences for one person during the study period. The funding is given as part loan/part grant by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund. After completing the programme and returning to the student’s home country, the loan part is converted to a scholarship. If residence is taken in Norway within ten years after termination of studies, the scholarship is converted back to a loan and must be repaid.

Submit the Attestation Form and all the supporting documents.
All documents must reach our office by 1 December. Late or incomplete applications will not be processed. Final notification of admission will be made available by 30 April for Master’s degree applicants and 30 May for PhD applicants.

Tuition Fees: Since the University of Oslo is a state university and therefore publicly funded, the students here do not pay tuition fees. Most students must pay a small semester registration fee of NOK 540 (approx. 68 euro). This fee gives you the benefit of the services of the Foundation for Student Life (SiO). Erasmus, Nordplus, and most bilateral exchange students are exempt from paying the semester registration fee.
