PhD Fellowships at Nucleic Acid Center (NAC) [Denmark]

Job description:

Two three-year PhD fellowships within the field of biomolecular nanoscale engineering are available at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The PhD fellowships are available from 1 February 2013 or shortly thereafter. The PhD fellowships are embedded in the newly established VKR Centre for Biomolecular Nanoscale Engineering (BioNEC) funded by the VILLUM Foundation and involves research groups from SDU, Aarhus University (AU) and University of Copenhagen (KU). The PhD fellowships are at the Nucleic Acid Center, SDU. 


One fellowship is available in the group of Professor Jesper Wengel where the research will be focused on design, synthesis and evaluation of short functionalized nucleic acid duplexes for de novo design of biomolecular mimics on a nucleic acid scaffold. 

One fellowship is available in the group of Associate Professor Stefan Vogel where the research will be focused on DNA-programmed and –encoded chemical reactions within liposomes. 
Both projects are highly multidisciplinary, involving diverse aspects of chemistry and biotechnology. 
We are seeking highly motivated and skilled persons to work on biomolecular nanoscale engineering. The successful candidates should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry with documented research experience related to modified oligonucleotides and/or liposomes. 
The positions are available to candidates with a Master’s degree in organic chemistry or a related discipline. The candidates should be proficient in English and possess good interpersonal skills.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period. 
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). 
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
