Minimum Experience and Qualifications Required

Gold Fields Exploration requires the services of a Chief Geophysicist who will oversee, manage, promote and implement all geophysical activities at all levels within the Gold Fields Exploration and Mining portfolio.
Advantageous Experience and Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science degree or foreign equivalent in Exploration Geophysics, Earth Geophysics,Mineralogy, Geology, or related field.
* Five years progressive experience in the job offered or in a geophysics-related occupation including 5years experience in commodity-based mineral exploration (Au, Cu, U) at both greenfields, near mine and in-mine exploration environments. Experience must include three years experience in working with a research and development team with experience in either systems development and/or application of research to solving exploration problems.
* Must have field data acquisition and QAQC experience in all major techniques of geophysical data acquisition and survey configurations in the fields of downhole, ground (2D and 3D IP and EM) and airborne geophysics; experience in industry standard software including GIS, GIS data analysis techniques, neural network analysis, geophysical data processing, image processing and 2D and 3D inversions; and hands on management, logistics and operating experience in 1st, 2nd and 3rd world jurisdictions.
* Requires international travel to mining and exploration sites.
Duties and responsibilities
* Integrating Geophysics into all facets of Gold Fields’ exploration and mining sites.
* Design, oversee data collection of and model data in 2D and 3D to provide spatial images which will thenbe used for prioritizing drill targets and for area sterilization decisions. Existing 2D and 3D data will be evaluated for validity, potential for extracting more information by additional processing, and finally be interpreted.
* Promote the use of both industry standard and cutting-edge geophysical techniques to the solving of complex geological and geotechnical problems.
* Design programs to be conducted by contractors, and then call for tenders and appoint contractors to conduct downhole, ground and airborne geophysical surveys, and quality assurance/quality control (QAQC) the work to ensure delivery to the highest possible standard.
* Utilize multiple, specialised software packages to process, image and model all acquired and legacy data which will be used together with geological staff to produce a geological interpretation upon which drill programs are designed.
* Conduct statistical modelling on the geophysical data, and integrate this in GIS and a 3D visualization environment where integration of geophysical, geochemical, geomorphic and geological data will take place.
* Engage in-house staff and manage both these and external consultants in exploration and research and development projects.
